What is it like to spend winter on the Lake?

I see some light ice on the Lake this morning. Any ice taking hold? Happy New Year to all fortunate enough to live in Wolfeboro on Wentworth.

If you like winter, Wolfeboro in general and the lake in particular offer as many opportunities to do things in winter as in summer.
Skating is temporary — usually, this time of year is the best, before the snow covers the ice. The rest of the year, lots of folks snowshoe or use cross-country skis to travel on the lake.
Snowmobiling is big, with an established run from the Cotton Valley Trail causeway across the front of Holden Shore and up into The Heath, from where you can head west towards downtown or east towards Brookfield.
Of course, all of this presupposes that you have the cold weather to generate ice and snow. So far, this is a year without a winter. Each morning the lake has floating scales of ice surrounded by large pockets of water. As the day warms, the ice dissipates.
The weather promises to turn colder over the next week, but there’s no precipitation in the forecast.
Anyone still think climate change isn’t real?
