How thick is the ice now?

This is not a reply about the thickness of the ice but rather a further request for an update. I can see why no one would like to say the ice is safe but I wonder if anyone has seen snow mobiles or trucks out there yet? Are there any areas of open water? Has anyone put out a Bob House yet? These are some of the signs I look for before I venture out onto the ice and I was hoping to drive up there this weekend to do just that. Thanks for any observations.

Absolutely NO snowmobiles on the lake — and for good reasons. For one thing, we haven’t had the kind of cold that would give you confidence in the ice’s ability to support a sled. Secondly, as the webcam shows, the surface is not snow covered any more — the recent warm temps and rain, followed by cooler temps, have turned the surface into a skating rink. Not good traction for sleds.

Pray for a cold and snowy February. Until then, best to stay off the lakes.

Enjoyed seeing someone and his dog walking across the Lake in the 9:15 webcam shot this morning. I’d love to be there to do that. Looks like this Lake is pretty solid.

What a treat this morning to see an ice house and some fishermen on the Lake. In all my years watching the webcam this is a first. Hope they enjoyed and caught something!
