The LWA was established in 1930, with Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas as one of the founders. The Association was established for the protection and preservation of Lake Wentworth and Crescent Lake as well as the wildlife and habitat associated with them. Promotion of knowledge about the lakes and their history is also part of the association’s mission.
The Lake Wentworth Association presently has more than 1,000 regular, associate, and junior members. The affairs of the association are carried out by the six executive officers and a 12-member board of directors. Committee chairs, shore representatives, and all other members are encouraged to attend and participate in board meetings. Members are also encouraged to volunteer to serve on committees in areas in which they have expertise or interest. The success of the association’s many initiatives is a direct result of the active participation by many members.
