Ice Out Contest Is Over – Declared Out at 5:00 Thursday, March 22nd

Ice out has been declared today. Before noon, there was still ice on Warren Sands but it had gone out by about 2:00. There was still ice in a cove on the west side  of the lake but it didn’t prevent access to the lake and would melt in a few hours anyway.  This is the earliest ice out in recent memory. The Big Lake went out the next day, the 23rd, again the earliest on record.Before this most recent news was written, it was said that:  ice is going fast, still large patches but with no winds. As of Wednesday afternoon, there is still ice in front of Warren Sands, Point of Pines and other places.

Ice is declared out when all shores can reach the lake without ice in front of them. There may still be “little” patches of ice in coves but all houses should be able to access the lake. Most likely will be tomorrow or the day after.
